[Publib] Insurance requirements and performers

Greetings,

I engaged many performances from a variety of sources and although they were
vetted by references,
we never required a background check and insurance was under general
liability. Since we had
several local politicians as speakers, they might not have passed a
background investigation.

One of the best performances was from the Pow Science
Center<http://www.powscience.com/>by my friend Eric Bolmer.
He created rockets out of soda bottles and other fun stuff for the kids. I
love science - it runs
in the family - my uncle worked with Wernher Von Braun at Redstone Arsenal,
my grandfather
worked on the Manhattan project, and my second cousin engineered on NASA's
Apollo
projects. A flying soda bottle with water propulsion just might bump into
someone,
but, to me, engaging children in science is worth it.

Ironically, the Pow Science Center had to move. Indoor prostitution is
legal in Rhode
Island and a 'spa' next door to the center created a terrible
environment<http://www.projo.com/opinion/columnists/content/CL_achorn28_07-28-09_43F5D59_v17.3f8adbf.html>for
their small
educational business.
