Librarians are not now, never have been, and never will be
irrelevant.
Well, I'm a librarian, working out of the trade. Guess what? Today I was
in Los Angeles Public's main emporium, looking for a book. This got me to
thinking. Back at the office I counted heads: 15 people present. I
asked each one of them if he/she had been in a public library in the past year.
Answer: Not one. Not even the ones with kids. Not even the gal who
reads voraciously. She buys her books.
So, I guess it's just me holding up the business, eh? Them aren't good
figures, folks. You see, it doesn't matter how valuable you are if nobody
believes it.
What to do? I'll accept ideas here.
