I don't refute your friends' stories, Lisa, but I will say I needed an
MRI right here in the USA just a few months ago. It took me 3 months
and persistence in the order of "above and beyond" from my doctor's
nurse to get me an appointment. I have what one would consider "very
good" medical insurance, but they fought like h*ll not to grant me the
'privilege' of an MRI my doctor wanted me to have.
Three months. Not the very next day. And only because I had a very
very good advocate going to bat for me. And only because I actually
have insurance. I would have gone without, of course, if I had no
insurance. Most of my friends are self-employed and can't afford
insurance. Our current system is complete unacceptable.
