Who puts their real name on those grocery store cards anyways? I never use my real name, address, or phone number on those things. Filling out one of those forms with your real information is like saying please send me lots of junk mail and keep track of my eating habits. You are handing it right to them, when really they are still going to give the discount card even if you say your name is Mr. Sandwich.

Subject: Re: [Publib] 1st Amendment Rights
Just me and my father with the same name. I can still find personal attacks from the blog
of a particularly nefarious local faction of the Democrat party. They also put a
three foot long dead fish in the back of the Senior Center director's car to make their point
with her - and she was the local chair of the party.
The idea that anyone can find out anything about anyone seems to be almost irrelevant to
many folks under thirty. Open Facebook and Myspace pages along with Twitter pass
along all sorts of personal information. People engage in a myriad of activities declaring all
of their interests. Tracking software shows where you go and where you might want to
go. And, anyone who receives this e-mail through G-mail will most likely be targeted with
key phrase ads relating to: politics, seniors, cars, fish, party, and software.
I have always enjoyed having the right to offer my opinion and will continue. I
am hopeful that twenty years from now my opinions will still be found on the internet and
if I am still around, I will benefit from 20/20 hindsight.

Ok, I Googled myself. I had to. Found out there are quite a few other people with my name. They are probably more interesting than me. There were 778.000 hits. I looked at the first 3 pages; I think 4 or 5 were actually me. Nothing inflammatory or derogatory. Well, maybe my Facebook photo, but it is actually me. You just can't do anything on the Internet without a sense of humor and fearlessness of consequences. What's the worst that could happen? Somebody might not like what I say? Oh dear.....
