I must admit to not reading all of the posts to this thread (no time), but
the few I have read seem to have this tinge of "Big Brother is watching",
fear the government, big corporations, the notorious "them", etc. and it
reminded me of a conversation about 2 years ago.
It was late Christmas Eve and I was sitting with my nieces (then 19 & 21),
my older brother and his wife (58 & 56 respectively), my mother (76 and who
grew up in Nazi Germany) and myself (then 38). My older niece pulled up
some pictures from her Facebook page which started a conversation similar to
this one, with my brother and sister-in-law worried about privacy issues and
my nieces not getting "what the big deal is". My mother and I didn't say
too much but I asked my nieces, "Why don't you feel that your privacy is
being compromised?" Their responses were basically, well, we put it out
there so how is it compromised?
My mother finally said, "Let me tell you something about privacy and
silence. They should not fear who might find out what about them because it
was the fear of being "reported" to the SS that kept good people silent.
Fear is what makes things taboo or worrisome or shameful. They may change
their ideas and beliefs, as most people do with age, but they are good
people at heart so they have nothing to fear and keep silent. The evil
people want to silence everything and keep everyone else afraid."
As for the Google thing, I have a unique name that I am sure not many have
in the world and not much comes up for me. I don't think anyone would
actually care what I have to say though! ;)
Just my 2 cents worth..

If you need to Google something serious or sensitive (venereal disease) (Al
Qaeda), use the library public computer. I may be wrong, but unless you
leave your name somewhere, you personally won't be identified.
