[Publib] 1st Amendment Rights & Information

That's why you should never go on the info from one source. If you find
the same thing in multiple sources you can lean toward believing it, but
never fully trust it.

It's like two people reading the same book. I may think it's absolutely
the best book I've ever read, but someone else may think it's trash. No
two people have the same background. We all have prejudices - sometimes
sub-conscious ones - from our life experiences and upbringing. We bring
all that to the table when looking at anything.

So, nothing's absolute.

And this sounds like philosophical territory!

Just because a site calls itself "Balanced" doesn't mean it is without
bias. The further information links on the healthcare page at
balancedpolitics.com lead to the Heritage Foundation, whose motto is
"The left is on the march, Heritage has the answers," Mona Charen, a
columnist whose book is called, Do-Gooders, How Liberals Harm Those They
Claim to Help - and the Rest of Us," a site called "Americans for Free
Choice in Medicine" which has a very strong "free market" stance and
supports "the economic and moral rights of businesses to make profits
as the result of developing and producing medications, and of their
investors to obtain a substantial return on their investments," and
others.

Of course we can learn and inform ourselves by reading others' opinions,
especially if contrary to our own, but just because something says it's
balanced doesn't mean it is.

There are many pro and con sites out there, but I like to refer people
to Balanced Politics when they ask me questions.

Their mission: BalancedPolitics.org was developed to present a logical,
balanced discussion on a number of issues important to society. We try
to provide reasoned, critical, non-partisan analysis of both sides of
the issue. We try to not let personal feelings or passions enter into
the analysis, and we don't limit our thinking by political correctness.

Sometimes I come away mad because the site's not supporting my views,
but I gather information that causes me to seriously think about my
opinion.

We have found that a library is not an end in itself, but a means to
many ends.

We can't afford not to be informed. No matter which side you fall on,
and we all have the right to differ, we must be informed.
