[Publib] Staff recognition awards?

I think it's nice when library boards get in on this action.  Boards do have
a role in HR, I believe, not in the micromanaging sense but in the overall
library morale/environment sense.  Boards could approve from the budget-or
personally spring for-staff luncheons or end-of-summer library program
parties for the staff who worked doubly hard during the summer.  Maybe an
ice cream social.  

 

Also, staff development & training days are great, made better if all staff
can attend, with the library closed for a portion of the day or manned by
volunteers for a portion of the day.

 

As others have mentioned, I like employee-of-the-day/month recognitions.
And give goofy gifts, one each week.  For nicer, real gifts, there are lots
of websites to purchase personalized things like mugs or t-shirts;
www.zazzle.com is one.  Whatever the idea, no matter how seemingly small, I
believe staff recognition is a really important morale booster!  Bonnie McK
