Note: I am recommending this book as it is a timely subject, I know the author personally, and the Abington Community Library has been acknowledged in the book (as was the Albright) as many of the books the author used in his research came from our new acquisitions shelves. The Catholic Church and American Culture: Why the Claims of Dan Brown Strike a Chord, by Eric Plumer (ISBN 978-1-58966-135-6 (pbk))
More than fifty books debunking the religious claims of The Da Vinci Code have been published. This is the first book devoted to the fundamentally more interesting question: if those claims are so unfounded and erroneous, why have they resonated so strongly with millions of intelligent readers and filmgoers? This book not only explores the reasons for the appeal of the claims found in The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons, it also provides a context for understanding the third of Dan Brown's "Robert Langdon" novels, The Lost Symbol, due out on September 15.

About the author: Eric Plumer holds degrees in theology from Oxford University (B.A., M.A.) and the University of Notre Dame (Ph.D.), and has taught at both Oxford and Notre Dame. He currently teaches at the University of Scranton. This is his second book and it is available through Amazon.
