We too store our reserved items in the open for the public to retrieve themselves. We use the first three letters of the patrons last name, first initial and the last four of their telephone number.

We stopped wrapping them in paper, too much staff time and a huge waste of paper. We now just have a slip that prints out with their name and last 4 digits of the library card. Not a single person has complained.

We simply wrap them in paper, put the patrons last name and first initial on the spine and put them on a self-service cart. The cart is close to the desk which really lessens the incidence of snooping. HTH!

Hi All,
We’re building a new library, and as part of the planning process we’ll be providing space for our reserved items. I personally am not excited about them being put out in the public for a self-service type of display because of privacy issues. Can any of y’all tell me how you do your reserves, if indeed they’re in a public space? Am I crazy to be too worried about the privacy issue? Thanks for any help you can send our way!
