Hi Chris - having all town events in one place is the way to go.  Many of
the towns surrounding mine in central Massachusetts have combined their
individual department websites within a single URL, which is a start ---
although in practice they still operate as independent websites with
separate calendars, announcements, staff lists, etc.

One of my goals is to create an online town commons that would bring
together the best elements of a local newspaper, town offices and library
--- as well as some unmet needs such as unified calendaring and volunteer
coordination.  I'd be happy to compare notes or collaborate.
