Records Management is quite an active profession. You may want to see
the Website for the Institute of Certified Records Managers:
http://www.icrm.org/
In one context, records managers maintain "active" records of an
organization, destroying those materials that policies state need to be
destroyed and managing the "useful" records. In this type of scenario,
after a period of time, records managers often turn over to archivists
those items of lasting, or "permanent" value. . . But there is more than
one model for records management, and in some corporate settings, as I
understand it, the "librarian" performs some of these tasks while also
aiding in various research efforts.

An architect friend of mine says this is a fancy name for "librarian."
Architects now keep digital files of jobs they've done, instead of paper
files.

Records Management I think is an established field. I worked in a
Records Management office once as a temp -- it had a lot to do with
optical storage, scanning and retrieving documents. You might find
something looking under that heading. Might be that library
qualifications would be an extra oomph you can add to whatever salary
they have for Records Management.
