Kathy, I think you hit it right on the head.  Are we in a business to
storehouse books and media or to get it out of the library and into the
hands of our patrons?  Empty shelves might demonstrate to your funders that
a bigger materials budget might be needed.  The demand might demonstrate
that a greater share of the materials budget needs to go to DVDs until that
collection reaches a size where there there are DVDs in quantity on the
shelf.  We do not limit and it is DVDs that are driving our growth in
circulation counts.

We too find that DVDs are generally the same or cheaper than our books.  We
buy from our national jobbers, from Wal-Mart, from Fry's, from bookstores,
and other sources.
