Unfortunately, I have to echo Terry's words. As much as we would like to give more assistance, we are often not able to! It's surprising how many patrons offer to help other they don't even know. Thank goodness!

That would be us.
We have computer classes at a few of our branches, but that is a separate deal and we don't have them at our branch.

If (and this happens often) someone comes in and needs to use a computer but doesn't know how, we tell them about the classes and ask them to bring a family member or friend to help them. We do not offer assistance. If they are competant enough to handle the mouse and keyboard we have handouts that will walk them through the MS Word resume wizard and yahoo email and such.

I do help the ones who are trying to type a website address into the media player or the ones who are stuck in some other ultra simple way.

Ultimately, it is a time issue. When I have 5 people standing in line waiting to ask a question, I do not have time to teach people to use the computers any more than I have time to teach people to read.

This question from a friend: Does anyone know of any public library that offers internet access to the public but does not help people other than signing them in?
