Dear Colleagues,

The only non-jargon words I can think of are "novels" and terms for 
genres such as westerns, mysteries, romances, etc.

I was distressed to read that some people appear not to know what novels 
and fiction are.

I agree that we apparently need to teach people some basic terminology.
