I would like to ask that our membership send its prayers and best wishes to
a librarian who is in need of support right now. I speak of a woman who has
suffered for two decades from a disease which would have killed a lesser
person: her beloved baseball team has not won a World Series since women wore
padded shoulders and Dynasty was on the tube.
Sue Kamm is not merely a fan of the Dodgers. She is a part of the club.
Put it this way: I am a fan; I listen to games, read the occasional box score,
watch the standings to see who's in first place. Sue can tell you who the
Dodgers traded away to get Jack Fimple in 1982.
And now, as I write this, the Dodgers find themselves in first place, with
only a handful of games left to win--or to blow, for the division title.
Every day is a new adventure in anxiety for the true believer; who will pitch?
Will the reliever blow the game? How is Arizona doing? Sue is walking on hot
coals. She has probably exhausted all her credits with the Almighty, and
has made promises that she will have to fulfill in her next life.
Me, I am not so worried about the Dodgers. I worry about Sue worrying about
the Dodgers. And that's a lot of worry. So if you get a moment, send this
poor woman a nice note of encouragement. And keep watch on the standings.
It's going to be an exciting finish in the west.
M. McGrorty
