Whether you want to protest a library's collection and events
or promote them, you can be stylish, effective and stand out
in the crowd with this human billboard
<http://www.brochureholdersnow.com/productwide.asp?ID=9142> . Instead of
carrying
an old fashioned picket sign or wearing a cumbersome sandwich
board, with this system your hands are free to pass
out brochures or tracts (built-in pocket included) and your
message will be noticed.
I really like this product.

But dealing with groups is rather different. It's not about a conversation
any longer. It's easy, even natural, for both sides to dig in. Often the
media get involved. In libraries where I've worked we've had picketers
objecting to romance novels (and I mean a BIG group of picketers), people
objecting--as a group--to books not in English, and other similar organized
objections. It's really worth library administrators and staff thinking
about what to do if this should happen. You won't do exactly what you
thought about, that's for sure, but the very act of thinking about who to
involve and when is useful, I've found.
Regards,
Dale (noting that none of these things happened at my current place of work)
