Politics is 'the process of who gets what how'.
All public library issues are political.
I think that public libraries in the US would
benefit from socialized medicine. There is already
a system of socialized medicine in place
with the VA and Medicare/Medicaid.
The people who are in the VA and Medicare/Medicaid pool
have the highest healthcare costs. The insurance companies
do not want them. They are not profitable.
The insurance companies want young healthy people.
It you bring young healthy people into the pool
with the rest, average costs plummet and profit
is removed from the equation, bringing down
overall costs.
We have all been 'taxed' with double digit inflation
of healthcare cost in the public and private sectors
for years - squeezing services and profitability.
Take profit out of the equation and you can extend
benefits for less money.

Diana,
Thanks for saying this in such a cut and dried manner. I was trying to
think of a non emotional, non-judgmental way to respond to it but
couldn't come up with one.

I don't post often but I do read to be informaed of what other libraries
are doing about "library issues".
When I want political information I will seek it elsewhere.
My political opinions are my own, I do not impose upon you with them.
Please do not share yours with me.
