[Publib] What's the point of Google's new Web browser, Chrome?

According to my figures, after releasing their product for download on
Tuesday Google Chrome's broad market penetration/usage had exceeded Opera,
Netscape, Seamonkey and Camino combined in the US & Canada.
I think that point differentiates it from the other browsers. The
resources required to simply provide the download is mind-googling.
