[Publib] Library Web Site under City Web Site design parameters

Not sure I can say it is an admirable example but an example it is. We found the hardest part of the process was developing pages for the kids and teens that were kid and teen friendly WITHIN the parameters of the city's guidelines. Other departments did not understand the concept of a page FOR kids not a page for parents of kids. I wasn't part of the development/design team but heard "stories" if you know what I mean...

http://www.fortworthgov.org/Library/ (you can also get there by using the old URL www.fortworthlibrary.org)

We did some customizing to the top "horn" banner to reflect library activities instead of the broader Parks and Community Services picture of the Botanic Garden. I think some of the current pictures are royalty free stock items but some of them were taken by our Digital Resource Manager at the time. (I am in the third frame holding a book rather unnaturally far from my eyes.)

We are working on that very same issue right now. This is our current
website www.stauntonlibrary.org <http://www.stauntonlibrary.org/> . The
city is currently working on a new design, right now there is a
committee brainstorming on function and organization. We will be using
Plone as a CMS. It is interesting to think about how the city is
organized into departments, but from an outsiders viewpoint the
divisions are not so clear.

Our city administrators have asked the IT staff to come up with a design
to standardize all city departments' web pages. They also want a common
menu at the top of all city pages.

I am our library's webmaster and am on the committee, so I've been
looking at other city websites to get ideas about how they fold the
library into their design, and how the library site functions as part of
the city's website.

So far, mostly looking at small towns in Oregon, it appears that most
cities provide a link to their library's website, but the library's site
is independent (as we are now). I've found a few library websites that
share a common header with other city departments, and a few that have a
discreet link to their city or county, and made share a layout scheme,
but are otherwise independent.

Can anyone recommend city website's that do an admirable job of linking
to departments and having departments link back to them? I'm concerned
that too many city links on the library's website will confuse our
users, yet I understand the wish of the city administration to provide a
consistent look to all the websites.

Thanks for any ideas you may share!
