Saw that yesterday but haven't seen anything to verify or contest it..

What does appear to be true (to the extent those of us at a distance
can evaluate it) is that both the city librarian and the police chief
openly supported her opponent in the mayoral election, as noted in
this 1997 article reprinted in the Anchorage Daily News on August 29:

and that was not a good career move.  Any dispute about books was
probably secondary.
