Mainly I just read the posts and digest the material. But I have to weigh
in on this military thread. I do not come from a military family. My son
joined the marines after he graduated from college. He went to Purdue so
there are some brains there. he just wanted to join. He did enlisted
boot camp before he switched to OCS (Officer Candidate School). he is now
gong to law school and will be a JAG officer. That's the background.
It was the best thing that could have happened to him. yes he went to
college, but the Marines opened his eyes to the kids coming out of
highschool who couldn't read, or even add well. He started a book drive
(through me and the library I worked at). We sent approximately 300
paperbacks to Camp Pendleton.
What I'm trying to get at is, the military is actually a good fit form a
lot of people. Not everyone goes into combat zones. They will learn a
marketable skill (How many of us would like to do without an electrician?)
And they give these kids life skills to succeed. So maybe you don't want
the recruiters at your local highschool, but just because it isn't right
for your kid, doesn't mean it isn't right for another one.
