There is a lot of discussion of the topic of barcode scanners on the FOLUSA listserv.
http://www.folusa.org/sharing/listserv.php
I recommend that Friends organizations encourage a member to sign up to monitor all the wonderful ideas which get shared on that listserv.

Subject: [Publib] Barcode scanners for setting prices

We are in the midst of our Friends Fall book sale this beautiful Saturday morning, and already three dealers have come by with barcode scanners, and walked away with stacks of books and huge grins on their faces. Although we don't deny anyone a great bargain, we'd like to be proactive and scan for prices ourselves prior to putting the books on sale.

Can anyone recommend a scanner that our Friends group could purchase at a reasonable price? Also, what's been your experience with scanning and pricing accordingly?

  Thanks so much.

  Ruth
