The only problem with that argument is that my library has thousands of
books and fifteen public internet terminals (five of which are for online
applications/database research or children only). Lack many of you, we lack
the funds, space, and infrastructure to expand and lately our wait times
have increased from no wait-10 minute wait to very frequently a 10 minute
wait up to a half an hour wait. People will often not sign up if there is a
wait, but will hop onto an open terminal.
Our policy allows patrons a 30 minute session with ability to extend their
time 10 minutes indefinitely if no one is waiting. They are limited to two
sessions in a day however.
I'm one of those people who gets home from work and uses her computer for
another 5 or so hours, so I certainly don't devalue using the computer as
unimportant or less valuable than reading. I just physically can't provide
the same quantity of internet service to the public that I am fortunate to
have at home.
