Remember one very important thing: you can wipe off vinyl.

Subject: [Publib] Vinyl v. Fabric, armchairs
We need to replace a number of [reasonably] comfortable armchairs. I
have checked the archive to see if I can find arguments for or against
vinyl covering for chairs, but unless I'm missing something, vinyl
appears only in matters related to beanbag chairs. A local
commercial/institutional rep was in the other day showing me her
wares. She recommended some of the newer, better vinyl coverings--of
course, she had favorable things to say about the fabric she could
offer, too--as being almost like leather and, presumably, sturdy.
I like the look of some of the vinyl, but several staff have wondered
if nefarious patrons, of whatever age--not that we have many nefarious
patrons, you realize--might poke holes in the vinyl, and holes or
tears or rips would be more pronounced in vinyl than they would be in
good, thick, dense fabric.
Any words of wisdom, suggestion, or tales of delight or horror out
there, in the case of vinyl v. fabric? I plan to get back in touch
with our friendly local furniture person and quiz her on the
durability of vinyl, but I'd like some feedback from the trenches, as
it were. Real life experience, etc. Thanks in advance.
