We purchased some very inexpensive bags, like the ones they sell at the
grocery store for 99 cents. Ours have our name on them and we sell them
for $2.00 (our cost was $.169 or so). The only negative comments I've
heard are about the price that we should charge 99 cents. The first
month we unveiled them we had a raffle for everyone who bought a bag or
came back and used it. We had 180 entries, (We had over 17,000 visits)
and gave away prizes to 10 people. No one has reported any complaints
to me so I'm assuming it has not been negatively received.

Subject: [Publib] Anyone eliminated plastic bags?
Has any library eliminated the use of plastic book bags entirely? Our
friends group has graciously purchased canvas book bags that the library
checks out to patrons - there are no fines on these, but they do show up
as an item on the record. However, we have continued to supply plastic
book bags as well. Now some of our friends have expressed grave concern
that we are still using plastic and feel that tax dollars should not be
used to purchase bags that may end up in the landfills.
Has anyone gone entirely to re-usable book bags? How did patrons react?
Did staff still keep a "stash" of plastic bags in spite of the
"elimination"?
Thanks in advance for any responses,
