[Publib] Text Messaging Reference

I brought up text messaging to my TAB as a means to contact them and announce programs, and they ADAMANTLY turned down the idea because they didn't want to be charged for the messages.  Their minutes and messages are precious...

We are wondering what experience, either positive or negative, libraries have had with text messaging as a reference tool.  We have been discussing both instant messaging online and cell phone texting.
