[Jane Jorgenson]

Janet Laurence wrote a series in the 90's that featured 
chef/caterer/foor writer Darina Lisle.  I don't remember a book just 
like the one you're describing, but the first in the series A Deepe 
Coffyn is set at a private manor and the meal is a medieval/middle 
ages recreation.  Murder occurs.  Could be one of the others in the 
series as well.
