[Publib] Re: New Person/and some long time listers....and ALA in Denver

Hi Sue-

Welcome. This is a great community. While I have not been here quite
as long as Miriam (with whom I have corresponded, but never met in
person -- at least while sober), I have been here since the John Illif
and Jean Polly Armour days. I was here through at least three server
migrations, and I think I am on my fourth or fifth email address to
the list. (1995 was a long time ago.)

Now, we do also sometimes see each other in person. Most recently,
there was a nice PUBLIB gathering (if I say so myself) at PLA in
Minneapolis. We also try to gather at Midwinter and Annual events for
ALA. Now, I happen to have had a beer (or more) with both Michael
(backwage at aol.com) and Sue, and consider both to be personal friends.

Some of us post frequently and consistently (shout out to both Diedre
Conkling and James Casey) and other of us more sporadically (this
shout out to my dear friend, the most gracious GraceAnne deCandido and
to Lisa Richland whose posts I have read for years -- the last library
before Portugal!). It is a fun group, with very few rules.

Our "listmoms" are Karen Schneider and Sara Weissman. [One of the
other lists I am on has been around longer than PUBLIB, but has its
official "owner" as the Listmom. When certain things happen she
invokes her title, too! At one library I tried to have a "webmistress"
but not everyone has the same sense of humor that I do...]

So, now you know what some of us look like, too. (Although, I can say
that I had a beard in the Boston photos, had lost only 30 pounds for
the photo with Sara, and was down to my current weight by the time of
MInneapolis...)

Just a quick note to say hello. I've been lurking for about a week
getting a feel for who's here and what sorts of topics are discussed.
I'm a Library Technician student in Victoria.
