I'm sure they are interested in libraries being a point of information.
What a wonderful deal it would be for them! But I personally am wary
about getting too much more involved after what has happened with IRS
forms. It is a huge workload and expense (staff time, dedicated
computers, etc.) for libraries every year with no compensation from the
IRS. Not to mention the unpleasant association with the most hated
department in the government....Please don't tell them to direct patrons
to us for us to print out electronic forms for them! IF they want to
give us brochures to put in our free literature giveaway area that would
be ok. Plus if the information is already on the web we are now a
point of information already without it getting any more formalized.
If they had treated us better about the IRS forms program, you might be
getting a more positive response.

Subject: [Publib] Uncle Sam Wants You!
The government is interested in libraries being a point of information.
It would be helpful if you could provide me with answers to the
questions below, so that I can have a better idea of what libraries are
willing and capable of doing.
What would be easiest for you?
- Being provided with an electronic document that you could print
out for patrons as needed
- Being provided with the actual tri-fold document that can be
displayed
- Being provided with talking points to questions that might be
asked
I look forward to receiving your input!
