Well, some of them are required and some of them aren't. However, you should NEVER have to pay for them. Most are available at the agency's website for downloading and printing. I have found the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries site very helpful for those of us in Oregon, http://www.boli.state.or.us/BOLI/CRD/C_Postings.shtml . They link to posters that may be needed or of interest from Oregon agencies and U.S. Your state government's website may have similar information.

Speaking of scams, you are not legally required to put up those Personnel Concepts wage information posters. They act like it's obligatory, charge around $90 annually, and I'd been putting them up because my predecessor had done so. It started to smell funny, so I called the US Dept. of Labor, and was told, no, you do not have to put them up and yes, it's a scam.
