[Publib] Library use of mobile phones - hot list

Greetings,

When I attempted to access your page, I could see a listing for the
document, but could not get access. I was hoping to see _how_ folks were
using the devices as, say, "productivity tools". For a few of the
categories, I could divine some practical (though not necessarily cost
effective) applications, but for most, a practical use is not yet clear to
me.

Perhaps you could attach a copy of the document-in-progress, if Publib
allows attachements?

Thank you very much!

Subject: [Publib] Library use of mobile phones - hot list

Apologies for cross-posting

Thanks for stories on how public library users and librarians use mobile
devices.
Here is a top 10 hot list of categories of how libraries are using
wireless and hand-held devices. I've sorted and stored examples on my
wiki at http://2CoolTools.pbwiki.com/research and will expand with
stories as I learn more. So far, #5 is the leading category -- not
surprising. My favorite category is #4.

Top 10 Categories
1- Reference and Research - anytime, anywhere
2- Language Translation Services
3- Disaster Planning/Emergency Preparedness
4- Assistive Technology
5- Administrative
6- Productivity Tools
7- Outreach/PR
8- Publishing - mobile blogging and more
9- Programs
10- M-Learning (educational)

Over the holidays, check in with your friends and family to see how they
are using their smartphones and other wireless tools. There are a
gazillion applications, with more introduced daily. Also lots of
variety in the equipment, from fancy to rugged.

Let me know if you have questions or stories!
Please note that I'm an ALA candidate for ALA Council, so remember to
vote! And, vote for me!

Happy Thanksgiving.

Thanks.
- Jackie
