Onion" in English, Germany's foremost living author and philosopher 
intimately reveals his early life from living in his parents cramped 
two-room apartment in Danzig through his service as a draftee during 
WWII  and then as a POW to Paris in the 1950s when "The Tin Drum" was 
published.
