[Publib] Money for library construction

Illinois has had "Live and Learn" state funding for Library construction for several decades. The money is accessible by grants administered by the Illinois State Library. I served on the grant review subcommittee since 1999 and until 2002, the overall pot was about $5 million per year for the entire state with the highest level grants maxing out at about $250,000 each. ILS has done a fine job with this grant administration process, but the money has shrunk considerably from 2002 on and the program has been on "life support" with modest amounts like $600,000 and $500,000 for the entire state. I suppose that Illinois, with its 625 public libraries, should feel grateful to have any such program in existence given the deplorable mismanagement at the highest levels of State government.

Subject: [Publib] Money for library construction

There are a few states that offer construction grants. Currently our state is not one of those. We want to hear from libraries that fund construction with grant type monies.
