[Publib] The Day After

One wonders whether public libraries and public schools would have support
in today's economic and philosophical climate if they were on the ballot as
brand new institutions. In my state vouchers and tax credits for private
education are being supported by conservatives.
I don't think we can assume that support for tax-supported institutions is a "given"
anywhere in the country as state and local officials wrestle with where to make
cuts. This is harsh reality - no matter what word you use for public expenditures on
social programs, whether the social programs are traditional (public education and
public libraries) or new programs that might be classified as socialized medicine (health coverage for all Americans).

Okay, I give up. I know lots of words that begin with S. Which one was it?

1) I have not had time to read every response in this thread. 2) I respect everyone's individual right to support whomever they chose3) I can't tell anyone how to feelBut...I did notice that someone (who appears to have supported McCain, as is their right) mentioned the S word...I find this strange as most of us work in Libraries (and almost all in public libraries...) which are a most wonderful way of spreading the wealth of knowledge in this world.just a thought-George
