A patron called to fact-check a story she had read in USA Today. Here are
some resources on voting rights in the US that I read to her from:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fifteenth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution

http://www.usdoj.gov/crt/voting/intro/intro_b.php

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women%27s_suffrage#United_States

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poll_tax#United_States

I grew up in Texas and know that Texas ended the poll tax in 1966, in
response to the Civil Rights Act of 1965. I don't remember how much it
was--maybe $5 or $10--a significant barrier in those days, when $10 would
buy a generous week's worth of groceries for a family.
