We are a small public libarary serving just under 10,000. We lease extra copies of best seller materials that can not be placed on hold and check out for one week. Our regular new book check out is for two weeks. This has worked really well for us. The best sellers end up on the shelf (sometimes for very short periods) for browsing and there is quick turnover. But we still get at least one copy that people, consortium wide, can put a hold on.
We shelve these items right with our new books and they have the McNaughton sticker on them which differentiates them from other new books. We determine the # we order based on our community needs - which authors and subjects are popular.

Subject: [Publib] Popular & Bestselling Fiction - Shorter Loan periods
Are there any small libraries (serving 15,000 or less) that have an 'express' program where bestseller and popular author books are checked out for a shorter time period then 'regular' books? If so, I would be grateful and interested to hear from libraries that are providing this service and the logistics (do you purchase, lease; how many in that collection; circulation, etc). Thank you in advance for your sharing your experience and/or wisdom!
Regards,
Polly
