In our branches, there is at least one (for now) reference computer set
up with two monitors, one for the librarian and one for the patron.
There is a switch from Belkin that allows you to turn the patron monitor
on and off, but keeps your monitor on. I'm not sure what that hardware
is called, but I can find out. We don't leave it on after the patron
leaves. I like your idea to display other things, but I don't know how
that would work, unless you left the display on your screen and didn't
work on other things.
We really like these monitors for patrons because we don't have to mess
with turning the screen around and then back, fiddling with all the
cords, and the patrons seem to like the instruction.

Subject: [Publib] Mulitple Computer Monitors at the Reference Desk
Hello! I'm wondering if anyone has experience using two computer
monitors at the reference desk (one for the librarian and one for the
patron to see). We're trying to find a way to make it easier for
patrons to see what we're doing (when appropriate) and to offer
instruction from the reference desk. What we're imagining is having a
monitor at eye level of the patron that displays our screen. When not
in use for this purpose, if possible, we'd love to display a list of
programs, new books, etc. on this second monitor. Does anyone have this
type of set up at the reference desk? If so, what has been your
experience with it?
Thanks!
Cassie
