Ben, this is a blog post that has a policy-with-other-stuff-in-it that you
might find helpful:

Some of it is draft policy language, but some of it is simply good
information I picked up here and there that could be crocheted into a
best-practices document. I can attest from personal experience that a
version of this was quickly approved by the "higher-ups" in a library I
worked at a couple years ago. 

A small tidbit: when I wrote that blog post, I didn't know anyone at St.
Petersburg College - I just used that example because, well, *it worked.*
Today I was chatting in Facebook with one of their librarians, Chad Mairn,
who I had met in person at the state association conference! Small world
(filled with many great librarians).
