[Publib] Location of YA non-fiction

We shelve all our YA non-fiction in the YA area. At most of our branches
they are organised by subject in dump bins (girls stuff, hard stuff
(drugs/sex/illness), relationships, sports, celebrities, etc). These can
vary from branch to branch. A few of the smaller libraries display
theirs in dewey as they only have 30 odd titles.
We also separate all graphic novels and study guides and place those
in/on separate dump bins/shelves.
The genre thing can be a pain in the arse as depending upon who shelved
it depends on where it might end up - there is no hard and fast rule.

Subject: [Publib] Location of YA non-fiction
Hi,
I am looking for any advice/recommendations/suggestions on
shelving young adult non-fiction. Currently, our YA non-fiction is
cataloged and shelved as adult, with a bright pink "YA" sticker. We (or
rather I) would like to shelve some/all the YA non-fiction in the teen
section. Some of the other librarians are concerned that teens will not
go to the adult non-fiction for further research on topics, thinking the
YA materials are all that's available. We've also discussed shelving
some YA non-fiction in the teen area and some in adult, but that seems
cumbersome and confusing. How do you shelve your YA non-fiction? Has
anyone transitioned their non-fiction from adult to YA or vice versa? I
would appreciate any experience or advice you have. Thanks!
