[Publib] Adult library programming

Hi! I've always felt that scheduling times for programs is always a tricky thing to decide on because you know it will be hard to satisfy everyone! (And you want the biggest number possible for your program)

Take into consideration the types of people that would be most interested in the program you're offering. Does your town have a lot of retirees or stay-at-home parents with flexible schedules? If you're community has a lot of religious organizations, Wednesday nights may not be good for you to schedule events.

The community I live in has many retirees so, Thursday afternoons have proven successfull for me. I've also had luncheon style programs on Tuesdays, as well. Saturday movies work well for our family audiences. We have also done workshops on a few Saturdays.

Think about the times when a lot of people are at your library to get hints on the time of day that may be good for a lot of people.

  Good luck with programming, too!

  Greetings All,
I have recently been put in charge of adult programming at my public library. While trying to get events set up, I have run across a question. I am trying to figure out what time of day to offer these programs. I know certain audiences will have a preference. But is there a better “all round” time to offer programs for adults to serve a larger population? If anyone has any suggestions or input, I will gladly hear it.

These programs would include current issues as well as author visits.

Thanks so much for your time and thoughts,
  Patti
