[Publib] Deposit collections for seniors

We have a rest home service which involves one staff member being
responsible for a set rest home. Every month they select books/magazines
to be sent to the rest home. Approximately 4 crates of books are sent
each month. Each rest home has its own library card and can stipulate
the amount and types of books they receive (non-fiction, biographies,
large print, magazines, dvds and cds). These are then either
delivered/picked up by our courier drivers who return books to their
'home' libraries, or a staff member from the rest home will deliver/pick
up the selection. I think that about 2-3 hours are spent on each rest
home a month with selection, issuing and discharging. Some branch
libraries can have 4 or 5 rest homes that they deal with, while others
only have 2.

Subject: [Publib] Deposit collections for seniors

Good afternoon,

We are considering offering deposit collections at senior residences in
our service area. If you maintain such collections, I would love any
information you have. Please let me know how your deposit collections
work, including answers to the following questions:

1)	How is the circulation of items handled?
2)	How is the delivery of materials handled? What equipment is
used?
3)	How much money do you allocate to this service?
4)	How much staff time does this service take? Staff from which
departments?
5)	Do you use volunteers? In what capacity?
6)	Do you feel this service is growing or declining?
7)	What is your materials loss rate?
8)	What else should we consider?

Thank you for your assistance,
Erica
