[Publib] best sellers clubs- can they be automated?

Megan,
At my library we used to do it manually and eventually gave it up since it was too time consuming. The other thing I noticed was people who complained that they were receiving too many books (amazing as that may sound) and they didn't have time to read all those books. Part of that may have been due to patrons who pick broad or several authors or genres. But while it might work better as an automated system, I thought I would share some of the problems we encountered.

Subject: [Publib] best sellers clubs- can they be automated?
Hello all-
My library has a Best Sellers Club that is very popular with our
customer. However, the service requires a lot of staff time, since we
manually place requests for each member of the club. I've seen that many
libraries offer a similar service. Has anyone been able to set up their
service to automatically place requests (without a person having to do
so) or do it in some other way that takes less staff time? I've seen
that some libraries simply send an email to customers when a new book
comes in so that the customer must place his/her own request. However,
I'm wondering if customers like doing it this way and if there are any
issues with customers who do not have computers and cannot place
requests themselves.
