We enter the holds manually.
I do not know that Horizon has any way to automate this, however we can
easily add holds to a title, so that part of the work is rather painless.
(We keep the patron's id# along with their name and can quickly enter their
holds).
Many of our "subscribers" are not online, so an email system would not help
them in the least. They rather like being surprised by having a bestseller
waiting for them at the library.

Subject: [Publib] best sellers clubs- can they be automated?
Hello all-
My library has a Best Sellers Club that is very popular with our customer.
However, the service requires a lot of staff time, since we manually place
requests for each member of the club. I've seen that many libraries offer a
similar service. Has anyone been able to set up their service to
automatically place requests (without a person having to do so) or do it in
some other way that takes less staff time? I've seen that some libraries
simply send an email to customers when a new book comes in so that the
customer must place his/her own request. However, I'm wondering if customers
like doing it this way and if there are any issues with customers who do not
have computers and cannot place requests themselves.
