Wow, I don't envy you. At my library, one of the library technicians
takes care of our book ordering and processing, so she also
keeps track of how much has been spent. We use Baker & Taylor,
and once I have a cart that's ready to send, I send it to her and she
orders the items, and receives the items when they come in. We
get monthly Quicken reports, divided by category (juvenile,
audio-visual, etc.).
I used to keep track of exactly how much I spent as I selected each
item, so I could note it in my monthly reports to my supervisor,
but that's inefficient. It's also inaccurate; I used to have a rough idea
of what I'd spent, but I could be as much as 10% off the mark.
I'm not sure what to suggest here - any idea why you're not given
any information about how much has been spent? You could point
out that knowing will prevent overspending.
