[Publib] audiobook readers

Ug, I just had to stop listening to How the Irish Saved Civilization,
narrated by Donal Donnelly. You'd think I was listening to King Lear or
something...it was WAY too theatrical for me...the performance got in the
way of the text. I don't mind non-fiction with a bit of oomph, but this
was ridiculous.

I'm a heavy audio user, given my two hour plus commute each day (not each
way :) ). I recently finished In the Bleak Midwinter read by Suzanne
Toren--her southern minister and rough NY cop were done well, and I'll
continue with the series. I love George Guidall, but I'm not buying him
as a 20- or 30- something. I think "they" need to find some younger
narrators for some of the younger roles. Women seem to do ok, but I think
there's something with the cadence or whatever.

I can't stand Frank Muller, but I almost went fist-t-cuffs with someone at
a dinner party one night because they ONLY buy (they buy!) and listen to
audio that he does. I know why I don't like his voice, but I won't tell
you so as not to ruin your enjoyment.

And Jim Dale can read me to sleep anytime. He's narrating Pushing
Daisies, btw. Very cute and perky show.

Ah, I didn't think I was going to participate in this thread, but alas.
