John -- growing up in Tyler, TX I never understood why we got Good Friday
off from school and had fish on Fridays in the cafeteria. I grew up
Episcopalian (sometimes I felt like the lone Episcopalian in a wilderness of
evangelism), so I understood *why*, but not why/how the school district felt
it necessary to observe. It made as much sense as giving us Yom Kippur off
(which they didn't, although it'd count as an excused absence, and probably
only with a letter from your rabbi and an accompanying explanation of the
Day).
Regarding Palesteeeeeeeeeeen had a priest when I was in high school who just
couldn't accept that it wasn't pronounced Palest-eye-n. To me, the town
mainly means where to go to find a liquor store.
