Subject: Re: [Publib] ALA Annaheim tips? Questions???
"My next question, is does anyone have tips on the ALA conference in Annaheim?"
I have questions, based on the town I live in and the town I work in, vs my experience at ALA in Orlando (the only ALA conference I've been able to attend). What does "across the street" or "across the parking lot" mean? (First of all don't judge Anaheim by the weather disaster that Orland was).
The Hilton is 50 feet from the front doors of the Convention Center. Marriott is across a street probably 200 feet away. Other hotels will be from 1 block to 8 blocks away. I'll guess a "block" as I use it is 1000 feet long.
Does it mean across the street of a small town, of a large city, or does it mean 1/4 mile or more? Is it covered, is it not?
See above. Nothing is covered.
Are there slopes for wheel chairs?
The convention center was remodeled about 3 years ago, and is fully ADA accessible as well as all of the hotels I'm aware of.
Is it the rainy season?
I'll go out on a limb and say it doesn't rain in Southern California in June (we buy Hollywood Bowl tickets in January for July-September outdoor concerts and in 25 years we've been rained on twice.)
Are there places that are covered and other places that are not covered as one crosses from one hotel to another?
No
Is a person on crutches going to have unusual challenges? (It's somewhat difficult for a person on crutches to hold an umbrella over his or her head.)
Umbrella won't be really necessary, but distances can be a challenge on crutches. I can't guarantee which meetings will be in which facility as they use for our church conference the entire convention facility, as well as 4 hotel meeting room complexes (Hilton, Marriott, Sheraton, and Clarion). By the way, don't get the "Anaheim Sheraton" mixed up with the "Sheraton Park" hotel. The Sheraton Park would be the one you want as it's next to the Hilton. The Anaheim Sheraton is on the far side of Disneyland up by the 5 freeway and way out of the way, and definitely not walkable. Finally, I'm assuming there will be the usual Gale shuttles from the hotels to the convention center, but I don't know this for sure.
I'm not attending, but from what I saw in Orlando, the answers to these questions might be helpful if posted for attendees (and their families).
