Durham County Library seeks an experienced, energetic and highly motivated individual for the position
of Deputy Director. Oversees the operations of public service for the entire library system. The ideal candidate will possess superior leadership and interpersonal communication skills to successfully organize and direct library staff in providing exemplary library services to the public. Works closely with the Director in developing and implementing strategic plans, policies and procedures, planning and organizing for effective public service. Coordinates the provision of public services with public facility managers and the Administrative Council. Works closely with the Assistant Director for Administrative Services to ensure that system personnel and training needs are met. Works with the Assistant Director of Facilities Management and Development to ensure that system facilities needs are met. Supervises Public Service Facility Managers. Works with the Library Board of Trustees in Director’s absence. 

Requires a master’s in Library Science or MLS equivalent from an ALA-accredited program with a minimum of 5 years experience in a supervisory or administrative position in a public library. Advanced graduate coursework in public administration is preferred but not required. 

Salary range for this position is $59,171 - $101,869.
