I have been listening to audiobooks since they became available and over the years have had many favorites. The most thrilling, most memorable experience came in the form of an *abridged* version of Proust's A la recherche du temps perdu, read in English by Jason Neville, and produced by Naxos Audiobooks. I found the audiobook set initially for my patron, the renowned painter Malcolm Morley, who likes to listen to books while working. He thought they were a lovely adaptation, so I began listening to them, and soon after, under the spell of the rhythm of Proust's lush narrative, I spent every spare moment of the ensuing summer months reading through the entire cycle.
