[Publib] On library blogs!

Blog fever seems to be on the horizon here in Blue Island. My library
started small with one blog (direct link here:
http://www.blueislandpubliclibrary.blogspot.com
<http://www.blueislandpubliclibrary.blogspot.com/> ) representing the
Reference department. At the moment, it is somewhat buried in our web page
(See if you can find it. http://www.blueislandlibrary.org
<http://www.blueislandlibrary.org/> ). I run it, and it has only been up a
few months. We are considering redesigning the library web page to feature
this and other, still-on-the drawing board, blogs more prominently. About
a month ago, I officially launched the blog, Live From Blue Island, with a
tiny bit of marketing hoopla: mass e-mails to patrons, friends and trustees
of the library, fellow librarians, etc., a notice in the local newspaper,
and signs around the library and on our website. I track traffic with
Google Analytics. Entries so far have included interviews with the library
director and other staff, homegrown editorials and book reviews, research
tips, notices from the Reference Department, a Spanish language
conversation, and more personal notes about my journey as a new librarian in
the community. I spend a few hours a week writing and posting. I'd love to
hear what other libraries are doing in this area. Feedback is very much
welcome.
